Workshop 1: Embedding Transgender Healthcare into Undergraduate Medical Education: A Collaborative Approach to Inclusive Curriculum Design
LGBTQ+ individuals continue to face disproportionate barriers to healthcare, including significant health inequalities and poorer outcomes. This is particularly pertinent to transgender and gender diverse people. A major contributing factor is the persistent lack of LGBTQ+ specific training in undergraduate education, an issue repeatedly raised by UK medical students.
In 2019, Manchester Medical School launched its LGBT+ Affirmation Workstream as part of a broader health inequalities strategy. This interactive workshop will showcase how trans healthcare content has been embedded within the undergraduate curriculum using a co-produced, student and community informed approach.
The session will be interactive and delegates from all professional backgrounds are welcome to attend. Participants will be encouraged to share challenges and opportunities in embedding inclusive content within their own departments and institutions.
