Human Rights Based Healthcare
In early 2024 a health board in the UK paused all out-of-area surgical referrals for transgender patients. The narrative of what happened will be presented as a fairy tale.
One of the outcomes from the surgical pause was that the health board’s Equalities and Human Rights Lead helped clinical staff in undertaking a human-rights-based review of the entire surgical pathway. We will discuss this and introduce the FAIR model (Facts, Analyse, Identify responsibilities, Review actions) to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment with human rights principles.
